Hello all- I hope everyone is doing well and being creative.

So here are the updates on Book 3- I know a lot of people are curious on what is going on and how the whole process works and where I am at with things. We will start with the inside pages.

I have 2 pages of bonus pages for the book to draw. I am excited with the extra pages in the book- I think it will add so much more flavor. I also have a few spot illustrations to add to the book as well. (just small pieces). The book is back in edits. This were I do all the clean up, have the spelling and grammar checked and do the final prep for print. It is also where I go over all the art to make sure it is good.

The cover is all but done- In fact I am finishing that tonight. I have to add one last quote.  Once that is done I will double check that and prep the artwork for print. This means I am converting it all to cmyk for print.

Now once that is done I will finish all the cards and the rest of the maps. plus all the custom artwork for people who pledged that amount. I am excited to see how it all works out.

I will be posting the cover soon and it looks like the downloadable pdf version will be available very very soon.

I remember the age when I first fell in love with fantasy art. Dragons, goblins, trolls, wizards, spiders, wood elves, dwarves and a hobbit. I was 6 years old when Rankin/Bass created their version of the Tolkien’s work the hobbit. I remember my dad letting us stay up to watch it when it aired on national TV. I loved it then, I still love it now. The songs, the voice acting- especially John Huston (gandalf), Theodore (gollum), richard boone (smaug) and the rest of the cast. The visual illustrations were unlike anything i had ever scene, and honestly it was then, I decided I wanted to draw fantasy like that.  What made the show so powerful to a 6 year old then, and what still resonates with me today, is how well they crafted the tale. I find gollum far more terrifying as voiced by theodore than I do from andy serkis (no offense he did a great job) but Theodore’s voice chills me to this day. I can remember crying at the end. It is a shame that we do not create animated features like this. The drew their story their way and it inspires still to create fantasy. I know to some it doesn’t hold up to the anime and animation that we see today, yet take a moment and revisit it and you might just see how a simple well made cartoon, with incredible voice acting, inspired 6 year old boy to become a fantasy artist.

update- Comikaze Review… and how to make young cons better! Is now up – see what a vendor thought of the con here.

Good morning- (or afternoon).

I am reeling in the aftermath of comikaze. I will be posting my review of the show soon from an exhibitors point of view – so it will be a new shop talk. I also wanted to thank all those that came by and hung out with my son and I at the booth. It was nice seeing some friendly old faces and a lot of new ones.

The fun thing is I woke up to a flat tire today. Something I am not too thrilled about. Oh well – it happens – now off to get it fixed. (which means I will have some quiet time to do some scripting.)

Working on several things right now. I am prepping for Comikaze in LA is in two days. Plus  I am working on all the bonus material for the kickstarter project as well as some new prints. It’s been quite busy. I am also dealing with some health issues, just trying to sort things all out.

To make everyone happy- the book is in edits, including all the new pages that will be coming.

This is a pic of my friend Troy and myself (I am standing). It has been 25 years since Troy and I have seen each other face to face. When I moved from LA we lost contact, until a year or so ago when we found each other on facebook. We’ve changed a bit from the rowdy 14 year olds we used to be.

It took an accident to create a reunion. Troy was literally crushed by a car while on his motorcycle. He lost his leg at the scene, crushed his arm, broke his hand and broke his leg. He has been in and out of surgery and has several more to go as the deal with the amputated leg. He’s in pain, but one thing I noticed as we chatted together how strong his spirit was and how up his attitude is.

His accident has reminded me how fragile life is. His spirit teaches and reinforces my believe that a positive attitude can help in healing. I was humbled by his spirit and his drive. I pray his recovery his quick. I know that there will be many more trials that he has to go through. I have faith that if he keeps his attitude strong than he will be ok.

I regret a little that it took an accident to reunite our friendship. I hope that I could only a small percentage of his courage, his positive attitude and his strength when I deal with my trials. My trials right now are nothing compared to his.

Glad we got to reconnect and hang out a bit.

A little more to the puzzle has been answered.

Well – here’s today’s update. I am really sorry about the spelling issues in the last few pages. I will try and make sure it is better. The good news is that before it goes to press, it goes through a lot edit passes.

I really feel bad about the last few days, and there is no excuses honestly. Just a drive to do better.

That’s right only 7 days left. This is the push. Please share, push, invite everyone you know that loves fantasy and indy comics to come back the bean. We are almost done:)

Also here is the cover ink to vol 3. When designing the covers I try really hard to find a moment in the story that really nails the whole essence of the book. I feel that this really sets the tone. In more ways than one. I will have the colors up in a day or two and mock up not long after that.

Today’s comic update and other Bean news:

One of the questions I have, is how does a little dragon get a castle? I am working  pretty hard on finishing book 3 I have about 12 pages left to draw and ink and I am now drawing one of my favorite characters of the story. I’ve waited a long time to draw her, so I can’t wait to introduce her to you all.
